dermal filler

Dermal filler treatment involves injecting hyaluronic acid gel filler under the skin with an ultra fine needle to enhance facial features and plump and fill lines, grooves or sunken areas. The fillers are completely natural and safe to use.  We use high quality soft fill fillers which disperse naturally over time in the skin.

Administered correctly by a fully qualified aesthetic practitioner, dermal fillers can be used to naturally smooth, soften, contour and tone the skin, restoring youthful plumpness to enhance and define your features.

During your consultation we will ask you a series of questions to make sure you are suitable for the dermal filler treatment. We will be able to answer any questions you may have about your skin concerns and give you personalised advice. If you decide to proceed with the filler treatment, we will carry out the treatment after your consultation.

From lip fillers to cheek fillers we can enhance, restore and define your natural features.  Fillers can be used to lift and tighten the skin giving you a more youthful appearance.

We offer the following types of dermal filler treatments:

Cheek fillers Add volume and lift to your cheeks. Giving volume to the cheeks can also help to lift the jawline.

Lip fillers Lip fillers give an appearance of juicy, hydratedfuller and more youthful lips.

Nasolabial and marionette lines – This is a fantastic dermal filler treatment that plumps the jowell lines and helps to lift the sides of mouth. This treatment can literally take years off your face!

A cannula is a blunt-tipped, hollow tube that functions as an alternative to a needle when administering dermal fillers. Dermal fillers have traditionally been administered using sharp-tipped needles. While both methods of injection have their roles, the approach of using blunt-tipped cannulas offers several benefits to the patient not previously possible using sharp needles.

With the cannula method, a small introducer needle is used to create an entry point for the cannula. The cannula is then inserted into the puncture site and moved along the natural planes of skin tissue; this provides a large area to place the dermal filler through a single entry point, giving a smotth and flawless look to the skin.

The cannula approach is less painful than traditional needles as there are far fewer entry points. There is also a decreased risk of bleeding, bruising and swelling. While needles are more likely to cause bruising and swelling because their sharp tip can penetrate a vein or artery, cannulas are less likely to do so, because their blunt tips typically push these obstacles aside.

Finally, decreased swelling and bruising results in minimal downtime and patients typically return to their normal routine immediately following their treatment.

Russian lips are the latest trend in the lip augmentation market. The technique gives a modern, contemporary, model like look to the lip, without compromising on volume and lift and keeping the side profile beautifully balanced.

The Russian lip technique gives extra volume in the body of the lip, giving it a fuller and plump look, with no chance of migration – where the products sit above the lip tissue giving a overfilled ‘duck’ or migrated lip.

The Russian lip technique involves injecting tiny droplets of filler vertically into the lip instead of the classic injection of lines of filler underneath the border.   Using this new technique allows us to widen, lift and open the lip body without any compromise of projection.

The best results from the Russian lip filler technique are achieved on lips that have not previously been treated, so this technique is highly recommended for those who have not had fillers before and can be carried out as naturally or structures as desired.

For those who have had previous filler treatments, we recommend that the previous lip filler be dissolved prior to the Russian Lip treatment and we will discuss the best course of action with you at your consultation visit.  Removal is not always necessary, but If you decide to remove the previous filler, we advise that this is done at least two weeks before the Russian lip treatment.

The Russian lips technique will require more time as it requires very articulate injections with regards to the placement of the filler.  Patience will be required to promote tissue separations for a seamless result.  There may be slightly more downtime than a usual lip filler treatment as swelling and bruising can be more substantial.  This is nothing to worry about and will settle down without any concerns.

Russian lip fillers will last around the same time as a normal lip filler would.  It is not the product that is different, only the technique.

Frequently asked questions

Where can Dermal Fillers be used?

We use dermal fillers to treat a range of skin concerns, such as lack of volume, fine lines, wrinkles, and deeper folds. Our most popular filler treatments include the lips, the nasolabial, and marionette lines.

Will having Dermal Fillers hurt?

The actual injection of the filler is not painful at all, but as the filler goes into the skin this can feel like a slightly tingle to a stinging sensation. This goes away very quickly and is not painful.

Will you be able to numb the area?

Yes we use anaesthetic cream on all areas before we treat you. This will definitely help you to feel more comfortable.

What will the area look like afterwards?

You may have some swelling after your treatment, particularly with more sensitive areas like lips.  Occasionally, if you have never had fillers before or your skin is very sensitive, you may have some bruising afterward. This can last for up to 10 days.

Will I need a touch up?

You will need a 2 week review after your treatment. This is to top the areas up and to check your treatment.

Treatment care

  • After treatment, slight redness, swelling, itching and some tenderness at the site of the injections may occur. This is normal and will generally disappear over the next 24-48 hours. When the lips have been treated, the swelling can last for up to 1 week, and the lips may appear uneven during this time. Please follow massage techniques shown each day to balance any areas that appear uneven.
  • Avoid touching the treated area for 6 hours. After this, the face can be lightly cleansed and make-up applied lightly and gently (preferably mineral make-up).
  • Apply some ice to the area if tender/swollen – such as an ice lolly.
  • Avoid alcohol the day before / 24 hours after.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise right after the treatment for up to 48 hours.
  • If possible, avoid direct sunlight and wear a sunscreen (sun may reduce the duration of the effect of the product plus prevents sun damage)
  • Avoid gym/sunbed/saunas for 24 hours post treatment.
  • Massage the area with a moisturiser to reduce any areas that appear lumpy.
  • Avoid creams with Alpha Hydroxy Acid or Glycolic acid around the area.

  • Patients taking aspirin, clopidogrel, warfarin and other blood thinning medications should be aware that there will be increased likelihood of bleeding or bruising at injection sites.
